killed himself after murdering his land lady and her cat. jim moret has more on the tragedy and look at how katie is handling the news. >>> reporter: katie perry's ex-boyfriend savagely murdered his land lady and killed himself. 28-year-old actor johnny lewis beat the elderly woman to death in her home in los angeles during a drug fueled rampage. this is the house in the upscale neighborhood where the bizarre murder/suicide occurred. police say katie perry's ex-boyfriend showed super human strength. he killed the 81-year-old woman and her cat. then used a two by four to attack two men who responded to the woman's screams for help. >> lewis who rented a room in the house was found dead in the driveway after apparently jumping from the third floor. lewis began dating katie perry when he was appearing on the tv show the oc. they were serious item for more than a year but their split was acrimonious. >> katie reportedly mocked her former boyfriend in this song, you're so gay. ♪[ music ] >>> one line says i hope you hang yourself with your h and m scarves. she recorded the song in 2007.

mission it can no longer be with senator jim demint. mitch mcconnell said the first priority was to make sure obama was it first term president. there was the possibility of working on different issues. if you have some good progressives reelected -- elizabeth warren -- you have a chance to find partnership on core issues. even something the chamber of commerce signed onto. this country could use an infrastructure bank that would put people back to work and rebuild the infrastructure. with mitt romney, you need somebody to, and that will understand that 47% of americans are not freeloaders but part of a political system and a country that deserves the respect. paul ryan has put forward a budget. another of them have fully explain how that would cut tax rates 20% across the board. what kind of loopholes would they find? that is a tough fight to have in a congress where there is a belief in a fair shot. host: next is a caller from iowa, larry. caller: hi. thank you for taking my call. i watch too often. i have a big problem with republicans. i feel they have not paid a political price

eyed, jim. some private grumbling about jim lehrer. you're hearing some people say with the halperin quote you said, kind of downplaying the significance of this thing. most people made up their minds. you're hearing what mike mentioned a few minutes ago, people saying yeah, romney did well stylelisticly but not substantively. i can tell you on the republican side i'm sensing real confidence. the republicans are the first people to get in the spin room. they came pouring in with their placards during the closing statements. obama people came a couple minutes later much more aggressive. i've been trying not to just talk to romney campaigners and republicans not closely associated with romney campaign people like al cardenas, chairman of the american conservative union, rudy giuliani, not always a mitt romney fan. they're all telling me they really think the dynamic of the race shifted a little bit. we'll see how much. the spirit is high among republicans and it seems relatively authentic. >> james writes a product for us called the morning score. you can sign up for it on "politico".

. some good examples have already been mentioned, such as the fact check stuff. when jim got started, when the press corps was basically a few. you had the fat guy, the skinny guy, and then the guy from mississippi, who was a great guy, but you could not understand a word he said. those days, there were good people doing it, but it was like a club, all done from one perspective, and there was not nearly as much of it, so we benefit from that, but at the same time that has happened, the coverage has gotten increasingly tribal. by that, i mean is truly possible now -- this was true 40 years ago, you can watch, read -- 24 hours a day and never hear a thought you can disagree with. there are a bunch of places you can go if you are a conservative, and a bunch of places you can go if you hate them all. and never, ever have to have the psychological discomfort of hearing something you do not agree with, and we are to blame for that somewhat. we have set up a hierarchy, where the fame and money and the attention goes to people who express opinionated views, and my own career is an example of
